Parental Controls Guide for IPTV Canada

The Amazon Firestick has a built-in parental control system that lets you restrict app launches, in-app purchases, and content by rating. Set this up before configuring your IPTV app for a complete household protection setup.

Enable Firestick Parental Controls

1. From your Firestick home screen, go to Settings (gear icon)
2. Select Preferences then Parental Controls
3. Toggle Parental Controls to On
4. Create a 5-digit PIN — keep this somewhere safe
5. Under PIN protect, enable Amazon Video and Apps & Games to require PIN for launching apps

TiviMate (recommended for Firestick and Android TV) includes built-in parental controls that let you set a PIN per channel group. Only certain channel categories — like adult content — need to be locked; family content remains freely accessible.

Set up TiviMate Parental Controls

1. Open TiviMate and go to Settings (gear icon)
2. Scroll to Parental Controls
3. Enable parental controls and set a 4-digit PIN
4. Navigate to your channel list, long-press a channel group, and select Edit
5. Toggle Require PIN for any group you want to protect
6. Repeat for each group that should be restricted

Lock TiviMate app launch (Premium)

TiviMate Premium also supports an app-launch PIN — go to Settings > Parental Controls > PIN on startup to require a code whenever the app opens.

IPTV Smarters Pro (available directly from the Amazon App Store without sideloading) includes an app-lock feature that prevents access without a PIN.

Set up IPTV Smarters Parental Lock

1. Open IPTV Smarters Pro
2. Go to Settings (gear icon, top right)
3. Tap Parental Lock
4. Enable the lock and enter a 4-digit PIN
5. Confirm the PIN — the app will now require it on every launch

Note: IPTV Smarters applies the lock at the app level only. For channel-category filtering, use TiviMate or combine with Firestick device-level controls.

Samsung Smart TV

1. Go to Menu > Settings > General > System Manager
2. Select Parental Lock and enable it
3. Set a PIN — this locks content and app access
4. Under App Lock, select your IPTV app to require PIN access

LG Smart TV (webOS)

1. Go to Settings > Safety
2. Enable Safety (Locks) with your PIN
3. Select Application Locks to restrict specific apps

Sony / Hisense (Android TV)

1. Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Security & Restrictions
2. Enable Restricted Mode and set a PIN
3. Use Google Family Link (see Android section below) for app-level control

Apple's Screen Time feature lets you restrict app usage, set content ratings, and apply downtime schedules. It's the most complete parental control system for iOS devices.

Set up Screen Time

1. Go to Settings > Screen Time
2. Tap Turn On Screen Time
3. Select This is My Child's iPhone (or use Family Sharing from a parent device)
4. Set a Screen Time passcode — different from the device unlock PIN
5. Under App Limits, you can limit or block specific apps by category or individually
6. Under Content & Privacy Restrictions, set allowed content ratings

Block IPTV app specifically

To prevent access to a specific IPTV app: go to Screen Time > App Limits > Add Limit, select the app, and set a daily limit of 0 minutes or use Always Allowed to exclude it from your child's accessible apps.

Google Family Link

Google Family Link is the recommended parental control tool for Android devices. It lets a parent supervise app usage, approve app installs, set screen time limits, and lock the device remotely.

1. Install Google Family Link for Parents on your device from the Play Store
2. Install Google Family Link for Children on your child's device
3. Follow the setup prompts to link the accounts
4. From the parent app, navigate to your child's device and select App activity
5. Block specific apps (like your IPTV player) or set daily time limits

Android IPTV app PIN (TiviMate)

If you use TiviMate on an Android phone, the same parental controls apply as on Firestick — enable PIN protection per channel group or per app launch in Settings > Parental Controls.

For the most complete protection on an Ontario IPTV setup with children in the household, we recommend the following combination:
